Exactly the size a side plate should be
Big enough for a croissant, small enough that four fit on a tray. The coloured rim is where the money went, and it lines up neatly with the cups if you have those too. Red is a deep brick rather than a bright postbox.
Striped Side Plate
- A table that looks collected, not bought. Hand-painted stripes, made to be mixed.
- Painted, not printed. The stripes sit under the glaze, so they won't scratch off.
- Won't stain. A non-porous glaze shrugs off coffee, tomato and turmeric.

Description+
A 14.5 cm glazed ceramic plate with hand-painted stripes running out to a coloured rim, sized for pastries and tapas.
Painted stripes run to a coloured rim on a glazed ceramic plate 14.5 cm across and 2 cm deep. That is side-plate scale: a croissant, two scoops of something, a slice of cake, a small tapas serving. The glaze is glossy and non-porous, so tomato and turmeric wipe off instead of staining, and the stripes are under the glaze rather than printed on top.
Four colourways, red, brown, green and black, and they are drawn to be mixed rather than matched, so a table of four odd plates looks deliberate. Buy singly or in a set of two or four. The stripes are painted by hand, which means the spacing shifts a little from plate to plate; treat that as the point, not a fault.
The stripes are painted by hand before glazing, so spacing and width shift a little from piece to piece and no two are identical. Glaze depth also changes how the colour reads under warm bulbs versus daylight. That variation is the make, not a fault.

Why the Striped Side Plate
Each piece is painted by hand and then glazed over, so the pattern is sealed inside rather than sitting on the surface. It won't scratch off against cutlery or fade in the sink the way a printed transfer does.
The glaze is glossy, food safe and non-porous, which means a tomato sauce or a turmeric latte wipes away instead of leaving a shadow. Microwave fine, hand wash preferred.
The colourways are drawn to sit together rather than match, so a table set with four different ones looks considered. Start with a single piece and add to it, or take a set of two or four at a lower price per piece.

Bought for tapas, used for everything
These came out for a Spanish evening and have not gone back in the cupboard since. Toast, cake, olives, the lot. The black one has the most contrast in the stripes and looks the most deliberate on a dark table.
Pretty, and smaller than most people expect
14.5 cm is on the page and it is accurate, but I still think people will order these expecting a dessert plate and get a saucer and a half. For pastries and tapas they are ideal. For a slice of cake with cream you will want the bigger ones. No fault, just set your expectations.
Frequently asked questions
Is it dishwasher safe?+
We recommend washing by hand. The glaze itself will survive a dishwasher, but repeated hot cycles and harsh detergent dull hand-painted colour faster than a warm sink does. Hand washing keeps the stripes sharp for years.
Can I use it in the microwave?+
Yes, the glaze carries no metallic content. Let it cool before rinsing rather than moving it straight from a hot microwave to cold water, which risks thermal shock in any ceramic.
Will the stripes look exactly like the photo?+
Close, not identical. Each piece is painted by hand before glazing, so the width and spacing of the stripes shift a little from one to the next. That's how you can tell it isn't a transfer print.
Can I mix colours in a set?+
The set options ship in a single colour. If you want a mixed set, order singles in the colours you want, which comes to the same thing at single-piece pricing.
Is it food safe?+
Yes. The glaze is food safe and non-porous, so it doesn't absorb oils or odours from what you serve on it.
